Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament October 1-5, 2013 Hollyburn Country Club West Vancouver, B.C. The 3rd Annual Chad Warren Charity Challenge raised $24,073.92 for the Hematology Research and Clinical Trials Unit at VGH this year, more than double what was raised last year! The five day tournament wrapped up with a social on the Saturday night - featuring awards for the winners and finalists, a silent and live auction, a couple of twoonie tosses, a raffle and 50/50 draw, and dancing. Thanks to the 130 plus players, the spectators who cheered them on, all the tournament volunteers, and everyone who donated items for our auctions. A special thank you to the Hollyburn Club and its members for hosting this event, Sharon Jenvey and Tony Macken for organizing, Lee Foster for helping out wherever needed, and Sharmina Murphy and Danielle Jenvey for taking the silent and live auctions to a whole new level. All proceeds go to the VGH/UBC Hospital Foundation to support the Hematology Research and Clinical Trials Unit. Want Updates from the Tournament? One Match: Join the Registry
Thanks to the One Match Stem Cell and Marrow Network for coming out to the tournament to raise awareness about bone marrow and stem cell transplants. Stem cell and bone marrow transplants are a key part of treating Multiple Myeloma patients. Chad would not have survived more than a few months without an anonymous bone marrow donor who helped him twice. There are two types of donations and both are painless and require very little recovery time. To sign up, you just need to register and provide a cheek swab. In particular, the network needs healthy men between the ages of 17 and 35, especially from ethnically diverse backgrounds. | |
