| When Griffin Wightman turned two, his family threw him a birthday party and asked that guests make a donation to Chad's cause instead of bringing gifts. They raised $341.38 for the HRTCU. Griffin's Mom, Heidi, says her family started a tradition this year to honour her Dad, Ray Pelto. She writes, "We lost my dad to multiple myeloma in June and this has been the hardest loss. My dad was diagnosed July 2009 and he filled his last 5 years with as much fun as he could! He didn't let MM slow him down or define him." "We started a new family tradition this year and each of our kids have asked for donations instead of gifts for birthdays (family still spoiled them). We figure we have enough toys filling our house why not still get to have the | fun party, but instead of filling our house with more stuff we fill our hearts knowing we are doing something great for others." So, in February, four-year-old Ella raised over $700 for the BC Cancer Foundation because she wanted "the doctors to make the right medicine and end the cancer". And then six-year-old Bayli raised over $250 for the Terry Fox Foundation to "put away the cancer". Now, it is Griffin's turn, and the family chose Chad's $1 Million and the VGH&UBC Hospital Foundation as their cause. While his Mom says Griffin is too young to understand what cancer is, he misses his Baba and, the family wants to keep raising money in her father's memory to help find a cure. |
