On September 29, 2018 at the 8th Annual Chad Warren Charity Challenge, we passed Chad's goal of raising $1 million for the Hematology Research Program at VGH. Chad wanted to provide stable funding for the program for at least a couple of years, and would be so happy to see the tremendous response to his campaign.

New Home for HRP
Chad dreamed that one day the Hematology Research Program (HRP) would have support to keep doing its innovative work year after year. Now, thanks in part to donors like you, the HRP has official program designation with the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute.

The Inspiration

Chad Warren
Chad Warren was 26 years old when he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer that starts in the plasma cells of the bone marrow. Doctors told Chad he had just months to live; he lived 9 more years and he got the most out of each day.

In the last weeks of his life, Chad wrote a blog called "Me, Myself and Myeloma" to tell his story and raise awareness about the disease he had never heard of before he was diagnosed. Now Chad's family continues to tell his story and works to reach his goal.

"I realize I can only control so much in my life. I control how I approach each day and the situations that arise, how I treat people and what I put in my body. Life can become pretty simple when it seems most complicated. There isn't time to think about the negative, no time to be angry, just time to appreciate everything and everyone around me."

The Goal

Chad wanted his life to make a difference for others. He set a goal of raising $1 million to help find a cure for Multiple Myeloma and other blood cancers.

The donation button will take you to Chad’s personal tribute page on the VGH&UBC Hospital Foundation’s website.  Donations in Chad's memory support the Hematology Research Program (formerly the Hematology Research and Clinical Trials Unit) at the Vancouver General Hospital.
